This first song is Crashing up by Manchester poet and musician Antony Szmierek. I love the way his voice slips effortlessly from the spoken word of the verse into the soaring vocals in the chorus.
To pair with this I've chosen Tonight in Belfast by Orbital, David Holmes & Mike Garry. DJ Helen, who also mixed this new version, first introduced Poet Mike Garry to the original 1991 Orbital track Belfast. She suggested his poem, 'Tonight' would go well with the track. Then he discovered the David Holmes edit which worked even better. There's a similar poignancy to the lyrics which I think are helped by the spoken word delivery.
