The first song is the new single from Joy Crookes called I Know You'd Kill. It was written after a bad trip at Glastonbury as a love letter to her manager, Charlie.
In Crookes own words:
"I tripped balls at Glastonbury and believed someone in our team was bad news. I panicked so much I almost cried. In an effort to reassure me, [Charlie] turns to me and goes 'You know Nay and I would kill for you.' My lack of sobriety, her presence and my trust in her made her look so literally shiny. I couldn't even look at her because she was glittering.
The video has a cool Kill Bill vibe to it that matches the soulful sound of the song perfectly.
To pair with this I've chosen another soulful classic. If You Don't Want My Love by Jalen Ngonda from 2023. This video is a live version and features some phenomenal vocals and guitar, both so fluid and natural.
